Coming soon…

“Downtown:” a solo show in the Brown Gallery at TOSH, The Old Schoolhouse Arts Centre in Qualicum Beach, BC. These paintings cover all sorts of ‘urban,’ from big cities like Seattle, to small towns like Cumberland on the Island. Whether you live in a huge centre or a small village, there’s a certain feeling about going into town. You come out of your private world and mingle with the larger whole. There you find people, activity, energy, and the feeling of being part of a great stream of things.

New Work for Fall Events

Coming up November 25-26-27th 2016, 3-day Central Island Open Studio tour, Campbell River to Parksville. Art will be hung, my doors will be open to visitors! New series in the works: a southwest series, based on recent travels in West Texas; an urban textures series; and a fun ‘mod cats’ series of small pieces. And of course, larger older pieces as well.

“Exit Strategy”

Inspired by Vancouver…strange & fated city. Old brick buildings…the sound of trains…ships…constant movement. Somehow the underlying malaise of imminent departure. We fly away like the crows…to the the mountains…with the city in our hearts.

“Talking Stick”

Inspired by the Music Salon evening.  ”Talking Stick” refers to the wooden instruments of the musicians, plus the wooden telephone poles that power our communications. I suppose the “telephone pole” is giving way to transmission lines and cell phone towers, also featured in many of my paintings.

Held at a home in Cumberland, a wonderful evening of music and art. Two musicians and three artists, including myself. We had a full house, and had to extend the Friday evening to include Saturday afternoon. Many thanks to Bette Kosmolak who runs Decidedly Art art rental in the Comox Valley.

Winter impressions of New Westminster. Apart from the big riverside condos, gentrification hasn’t quite hit yet and has left many pockets untouched by urban renewal. Used car lots and industrial sites mingle with old neighbourhoods, although it’s all going fast. 40″ x 20″ diptych. $1600.
